I’m not a “race” specialist by training. I am a critical scholar and I believe that while racism and race-based discrimination ARE real, “race” itself is NOT, making discussions predicated on different “race” point of views philosophically and practically problematic for me in the sense that they reify what I spend my pedagogy and life’s work trying to deconstruct and eliminate. A discussion between Euroamericans and Africans in America for example, is not for me a “race” discussion or a discussion between people from different “races” but a cultural and ethnic one.
