The “Negro” Mentality

The term “negro” was used to refer to null, or nothing or the color black in Latin. It was applied to Afrikans as a part of their enslavement and neocolonial status to imply that they were a people without a history outside of oppression. The “negro mentality” for me, involves acting as though the reality presented by those who enslaved and colonized is in fact the reality of the Afrikan historically and presently. “Negroes,” in that sense, identify with the Eurocentric reality and seek to expand and preserve it, rather than their own.
