Minimalist Mediocrity

This is the great vise of an Afrikan in a Eurocentric education system. It’s what I call “minimalist mediocrity.” You have to be smart enough to avoid the stereotype of being ignorant, but not so smart that you actually are smarter than those who run this system because then they will punish you for being smart. Most of our youth surrender to this vise and “play dumb.” This is why you will see high school educated, college educated Afrikan people pretending to be gangsters or trying to be ancient Europeans or any number of things. Their being Afrikan is problematic. So they either have to be Negroes (see Carter G Woodson’s Miseducation of the Negro) or Afrikans who are trying to be or appearing to be trying to be Europeans.
