Different Game, Same Board

Too many Afrikan people are playing checkers while their Eurocentric opponents are playing chess. The boards look the same but the competencies and skills necessary for mastery of one is not the same as the other. In checkers, it is vital to focus on making the right individual move to advance at the right time. In chess, it is less the individual move than the collective strategy and the overall rules of the game that are central to success.
