Collective work and responsibility in the Afrikan tradition means working together as well as holding each other accountable for that work. Our critical challenges of the moment are (a) developing leadership of sufficient character and training to be able to facilitate truly collective work, (b) developing an agenda that is truly representative of the collective interest, and (c) developing mechanisms of accountability and leadership dynamism (in which leadership is based on the particular skill set needed by the masses in a particular situation and not statutory, intransigent “positions.”
