TOO much “Entertaining”

I think we are collectively TOO ‘entertained.” I think it was the Eurocentric philosopher Jean Baudrillard who talked about the potential to, in effect, be “entertained” to literal death as fictional and virtual reality (super bowls, music stars, oscar awards for pretend characters) become more important and more ‘real” in the minds of the people than “reality” (broken homes, unemployment, poverty, incarceration). It is not accident that those deepest in prison seek such amusement. It is as Malcolm said, the “novocaine” Eurocentric society uses to dull the senses and sense.

And by the way to “entertain” is a synonym for to “tolerate”, etymologically and we need to interrogate that seriously as we analyze our condition. How much nonsense do we “entertain?”
