Calibrating the moral compass

An oppressed people must maintain the right to say that not all of their cultural productivity is positive or good or acceptable, even if it generates wealth and fame in the larger society or is popular among some subsection of the masses. This is true because their cultural products are equally likely to present elements of renewal and resurrection as veneration of the system of oppression.
