I am not an “originalist” trying to go back to some ancient Afrikan identity. I prefer a new, modern Afrikan identity based on general notions of cultural affinity, ancestral heritage, common enemies and challenges, mutual strategic placement in the global system, and mutual interests. We actually accept these and work on them with our former enslavers and colonizers. I just want us to do what we do with and for ourselves. Sadly, we have been manipulated so long that when you say we should work with a brother or sister the way we attempt to and do with those who captivate us, we think of difficulties rather than opportunities.
